Age mix at interactive tools
4 min read

In many companies and agencies, up to four generations sometimes work under one roof. Millennials, baby boomers and digital natives meet on shared projects and bring different perspectives and ideas with them. Yet the meeting of different age groups doesn't automatically cause friction. At interactive tools, we give an insight into the make-up of our agency and have found that a mix of generations offers plenty of opportunities.

Average age: 40.9 years
Interactive tools has been around for 25 years now. Some of our colleagues weren't even born when the company was founded, while others helped shape our first projects and have been on board since day one. Most of the team is between 30 and 40 years old. We're especially grateful for our colleagues over 50 – their experience benefits every team member and every project.
At just over 40, our average age is probably higher than at many other digital agencies. We're proud of that and enjoy the exchange between one another.
The age mix enriches everyone
We've found: our teamwork only really comes into its own thanks to this varied mix. Working students, experienced team players, freelancers, career changers and other creative minds pull together and learn from one another. We share experience, skills and knowledge across age ranges and complement each other. Exchange at eye level matters especially to us here. We try to leave possible generational conflicts behind and look at how everyone can contribute best, regardless of age.
Our theory: perhaps collaboration works especially well for us because we've consistently flattened our hierarchies. There are no blocking superiors and no classic climbing of the hierarchy ladder here. We see ourselves as a living network in which everyone is equally valuable.
Diversity is the key to a successful future
We don't see the meeting of different generations as a potential conflict, but as a promising opportunity. We believe: in a constantly changing world, where no one can know everything, it's especially important to learn from one another and share experiences and perspectives. For us, the key to a successful future lies in our agency's diversity and mix of generations.
100 experts from consulting, concept, design, content and web development come together here and form self-organised teams that keep developing. To create a constructive way of working together, we try to build an environment that responds to the individual strengths and needs of our employees. This includes flexible working time models and the option to shape the working day individually.
At interactive tools, we believe our results get better when we function well together as a team. And that takes cooperation and mutual appreciation.
25 years of interactive tools – we take standing for something seriously
For over 25 years, we at interactive tools have been developing digital products, putting people at the centre of our decisions and actions. This attitude shapes not only our projects but also our day-to-day interactions and our role in society.
We take responsibility

Open door policy – we welcome everyone (back)
From our 25 years of experience, we know how valuable long-standing colleagues as well as newcomers, career changers or returners are for us and our projects. One thing stands out: many team members come back to us after some time at other agencies or companies. The experience they've gained in the meantime enriches our work, and onboarding goes faster too. We want to learn from one another and grow together.
And that's not just about our age structure. Everyone is welcome here regardless of age, gender, background or other characteristics. The main thing is that you fit with us and we fit with you.
At interactive tools, one thing is certain: we're proud of our employees' varied mix and delighted about collaborations that have sometimes lasted decades. But we're also very grateful for our newcomers of any age.
If you fancy joining our interdisciplinary team, take a look at our job openings to see if something suits you – or send us a speculative application! We don't want to fill any particular slots, we want to meet exciting people.
