The GKV National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds in a new guise
A corporate website as a central information platform
The GKV National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds is the central representative body for Germany’s statutory health and long-term care insurance providers. It shapes the framework conditions for healthcare and long-term care services for the 70 million people covered by statutory insurance in Germany.
For the GKV National Association, interactive tools delivered the new corporate website, a range of topic-specific portals, web forms, the extranet, and the e-magazine. From design and concept development to usability, the focus remained firmly on user needs and accessibility throughout the entire project.

More space for services, news and publications
The concept and design put the GKV-SV's extensive services, news and publications at the forefront of the corporate website. All relevant developments in the field of health and long-term care insurance are thus made quickly and easily accessible to the target audiences. Large, emotional hero areas, imagery and teasers guide users directly from the homepage to the most important topics, news and social media updates.

Accessible and fully responsive
The entire website is built accessibly so that everyone can make use of GKV-SV's services. A very lean menu structure ensures simple handling and excellent usability. The new GKV-SV website is also responsive, so all modules, forms and services display correctly on mobile devices too. The association's complex range of information and the site's features were built with the FirstSpirit enterprise CMS, which also stands out for its strong usability among GKV-SV's editors.
User-optimised topic portals
Visually aligned with corporate website, we took on redesign of GKV-Spitzenverband's topic portals. Through testing we optimised portals for usability and accessibility. We considered different target groups throughout. On one hand, topic portals address professional audience of doctors and hospital staff. On other, portals inform wider public on topics such as evaluation of care homes via care ratings.

Web form promotes communication
In collaboration with GKV-SV, we implemented a complex, user-optimised web form. It serves outpatient specialist care (ASV) for data and information exchange between interdisciplinary teams. The aim of this form is to promote collaboration between hospitals and practising doctors.

Extranet of the umbrella association
Based on the portal software Liferay, we took on the redesign and conception of the extranet. This is based on complex functions and user roles. In the member portal of the GKV-Spitzenverband, information exchange takes place between the association's staff and its members. A particular challenge lay in representing protected content. In the so-called extranet group rooms, users can discuss and communicate confidential content. Another challenge was implementing a branched role concept.
For this extensive data migration project, we created an optimised environment for different user groups and permission levels with Liferay. As the technological foundation, we introduced new portal software with a multi-site setup using Liferay 6.2 EE. The CMS is also implemented via Liferay. We tailored this to individual editorial needs.
Modern e-magazine for GKV-Spitzenverband's customers
Joy of use, i.e. the maximum of positive user experience, is also at the centre of the conception and implementation of a new e-magazine for the GKV-Spitzenverband. The result: a magazine with a fresh, responsive design and intuitive operation. The use of the FirstSpirit ContentCreator provides more usability for editors. Articles can now be edited directly in the browser. Besides the magazine itself, editors can create a newsletter in the CMS that's sent out alongside the magazine, touches on current topics and can be managed easily.
