The EU executive's Digital Compass 2030 targets name a number of requirements to be achieved by the end of the decade.

„Today, data generated in Europe is generally stored and processed outside Europe. Its value is thus also realised outside Europe,“ the European Commission's draft communication states. „While companies that generate and use data should retain freedom of choice in this respect, this can nonetheless bring risks in terms of cybersecurity, supply vulnerabilities, dependency, and unlawful access to data by third countries.“
