Was Software-Entscheider von der Formel 1 lernen

When companies select new software, it's an important course-setting decision for the future. That's why many departments are asked in advance for their input, and this usually results in a precise requirements catalogue that ensures all ambitious corporate goals can be achieved. The chance for a fresh start into another league doesn't come along all that often, after all.

But this assessment isn't always the right one. Joubin Rahimi, managing director of digitalisation agency synaigy, advises in the iBusiness Expert Talk to analyse one's own capabilities far more than ambitious aspirations. "Even the Martini Racing racing team always wanted to compete in Formula 1," is his metaphor. But despite good equipment and top drivers, it ultimately never was enough for the premier class. "What mattered much more in the end was having the right team for development, optimisation and maintenance – which Martini Racing didn't have."

The same applies to software selection: only the solution that fits the company's budget, capability and maturity level perfectly, while still leaving room for growth, is optimal – no easy task.

What else matters when choosing software in a company, why service providers are often more decisive than the programmes, where the biggest mistakes lurk and why one should never talk tech for tech's sake, Rahimi explains in the expert talk with iBusiness analyst Dominik Grollmann.
