Nolte Küchen

Digital Experience Platform

The New Digital World of Nolte

With the website relaunch, Nolte Küchen has achieved a key milestone in the company’s digital transformation. At its core is a scalable, high-performance platform that meets the demands of an international B2B and B2C market—with optimized workflows, easy content management, and maximum flexibility.

The particular challenge: uniting two target audiences with different expectations on a single platform. While end customers are inspired to purchase kitchens through engaging content, the actual purchasing process takes place at authorized specialty retailers. The new website bridges both worlds—offering a seamless, intuitive customer journey for consumers and a central hub for B2B partners.

At its technical core is Magnolia DXP—an enterprise CMS that combines flexibility, performance, and future-proofing. The architecture we implemented enables the platform to be continuously developed and precisely tailored to new requirements.

More digital possibilities, less effort—a platform that grows with you.

From system migration to flexibility: the biggest challenges

At project start, a number of strategic and technical challenges had to be overcome. Migration from the previous Sitecore CMS to Magnolia DXP required a carefully planned strategy to seamlessly transfer existing data, processes and structures into the new system – while keeping ongoing operations running.

Central requirement was target-group-specific alignment of new platform: end customers should be addressed emotionally and inspired, even though purchase happens exclusively through specialist dealers. This created need to establish intuitive link to dealer search. At same time, B2B users – especially dealers – needed fast access to exclusive content and functions.

There was also room for optimisation at editorial level: extensive translation and approval processes had made content maintenance difficult. The goal was to streamline these significantly and replace them with modern workflows.

Another focus was on the flexible mapping of microsites. While campaign pages were previously realised via external tools such as WordPress, the new system was meant to enable a central, efficiently manageable solution within the main platform – including scope for individual design.

Project goals: strategic realignment and a future-proof technical foundation

Project's goal was introducing Magnolia DXP as central CMS solution, to establish powerful, scalable, long-term viable platform. Focus was on consolidating existing web presences – including nolte-kuechen.com and nd-express-kuechen.de – into one shared system with unified structure and efficient management of all language variants (DE, EN, NL, FR, ES, IT, PL).

A key concern was also the targeted optimisation of the user experience – for end customers as well as for retailers. This was achieved through a clearly structured content architecture and intuitive navigation.

Technically, the focus was on the seamless integration of existing third-party systems such as Inxmail and Azure AD. At the same time, the system had to be highly performant and scalable to handle load peaks with ease. The website also needed to stay flexible enough to enable microsites within the existing template.

Beyond short-term requirements, long-term strategy was also considered. This included requirements of Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG), which demands digital accessibility for all user groups by June 2025. Plus, sustainability played key role — both in operation and design, to create resource-efficient, long-term viable digital solution. On top of that, multi-tenancy was planned in for future monobrands, keeping platform flexible for upcoming developments.

With the new Magnolia DXP we can manage our content faster and more efficiently. The workflows are leaner, the system is more flexible – and we finally have a solution that grows with our requirements.

Phase 1: Strategy & Design: From Strategy to Rollout: Our Roadmap for a Future-Proof Platform

The technical implementation of the new website was based on an existing design concept from agency W&S. Our task was to translate the visual concept into a performant, scalable and user-friendly platform – with a focus on efficiency, extensibility and clear target-audience alignment.

Two central user journeys were the focus:

  • End customers should be engaged through an optimised product presentation. To this end, interactive features such as moodboards and favourites lists were integrated, enabling individual planning and design. The platform also offers the option to create and edit your own kitchen designs and share them directly with trade partners.

  • Dealers need fast, targeted access to technical product information, planning data and exclusive content. The platform was structured so that authorised partners can efficiently access relevant information – supported by a role-based permissions system and a clearly organised content architecture.

Phase 2: Technical Implementation: A New Design System for a Strong Brand

The technical implementation focused on four key areas that laid the foundation for a future-proof, maintainable and scalable platform:

  • The migration of existing content into the Magnolia DXP ensured that all relevant data was carried over seamlessly.

  • Implementing a multi-tenant system laid the foundation for centrally managing various brand or campaign sites – with the ability to implement individual customisations and creative freedom within defined templates.

  • New, intuitive workflows significantly simplify content maintenance. Editorial teams now benefit from clear approval processes, simplified workflows and greater efficiency in editorial work.

  • Connecting relevant third-party systems such as Inxmail and Azure AD enables automated, seamless data processing. This reduces manual effort and increases operational reliability.

Phase 3: Testing & Rollout

Before going live, the platform was thoroughly tested through a multi-stage quality assurance process. As part of user acceptance tests (UAT), the new website was tested under real-world conditions. This allowed potential usability hurdles to be identified early and addressed in a targeted way. In parallel, intensive training sessions were held for the editorial teams to ensure confident handling of the new system and a smooth transition to live operation. The process concluded with a comprehensive system test under real load, in which stability, performance and scalability were verified as the basis for a successful, stable rollout.

The new platform offers us exactly the flexibility we need. It integrates seamlessly into our existing system landscape while remaining open to future extensions – a genuine gamechanger for our digital growth.
