The future of content management: FirstSpirit Content-as-a-Service (CaaS)

3 min read

For companies, content is the key to a successful digital business strategy. Good content is needed for brand communication, the presentation of products and solutions, and sales. Content is revenue-relevant when it comes to conveying a company's capabilities and selling its products in national and international markets. With the content management system (CMS) FirstSpirit, there is now a new technology (Content-as-a-Service) that makes controlling all relevant content channels even easier.

Content on demand with the pull principle

Content-as-a-Service (CaaS) works on the pull principle: the company provides its content in format-neutral modules, allowing it to be pulled by various channels via a universal CaaS interface (API). Whereas previously all channels usually had to be laboriously connected to the existing IT structure, CaaS separates content, layout and formats, so content can be retrieved in a format-neutral way and delivered to any desired application.

The e-Spirit AG tackle this challenge with new technology based on pull principle, making content from content management system FirstSpirit retrievable format-neutrally: beyond own channels, content can thus supply third-party websites and real products like plants, machinery, vehicles and devices.

The benefits at a glance:

  • Centrally controlled communication with customers, retailers and partners across all channels (including external ones)

  • CaaS saves editorial resources, as content is created once in a format-neutral way

  • CaaS saves IT resources, as all touchpoints access just one interface (CaaS API)

  • Fast integration of new touchpoints

  • Better qualitative and quantitative content analysis

  • Opening up new business models: providing content to third parties

Application scenarios for CaaS:

  • Simple delivery of content to additional company channels beyond the website, such as web shops, apps and social media

  • Straightforward provision of content for retailers, customers, partners, media and third parties

  • Provision and control of central content in a large, international group of companies for consistent customer communication

  • Intranets and company networks

  • IoT: machinery, plants, devices, vehicles, on-board computers, displays at a point of sale

The number of communication channels customers use keeps growing: mobile apps, websites, web shops, social media channels — but also for offline touchpoints such as retail or service points, and smart and connected devices in the Internet of Things (IoT), ever more content is needed.

The e-Spirit AG meets this challenge with new technology based on pull principle, making content from FirstSpirit content management system retrievable in format-neutral way: beyond own channels, content can thus be delivered to third-party websites and to actual products such as plants, machines, vehicles and devices.
